Captain Rich Newcomb
aka "Livin' Large"
Rich has been in the marine industry since the age of 15. Growing up in Newport Beach California, it is also the family business, as his grandfather and father, held U.S. Coast Guard Captains licenses as well. Rich grew up fishing the West Coast and Mexico. Rich moved to Maui in 1982 exclusively to fish Hawaiian waters. Averaging 300 fishing days a year he worked full time in the Maui charter business, as well as earning his U.S. Coast Guard License in 1985. In 1993, Rich took a job in Palau, Micronesia running a 120 foot live aboard dive yacht for a year,
Retuning to Maui in 1994, rich worked for 9 years for Pacific Marine and Lockheed missiles and space as the companies Hi speed ferry expert, senior Captain, Operations Manager, and Test Pilot for new prototype hull shapes, built at Honolulu Shipyard. Returning to the fishing industry, he captained such top vessels such as “Marlin Mischief”, “Ewe Lela” and “No Problem”, until April of 2006 when he accepted a captain’s position on a 110-foot private yacht on the west coast. Captain Rich has a number of masterful catches with dozens of double digit fishing trips. He has been doing the early morning live bait trips for many years. His prize catch was a 955 lb Pacific Blue Marlin that can still be seen hanging in the local restaurant
Lahaina Coolers! Rich returned to Maui August 2009 to run the “No Problem” .
